About Chiropractic Care
-
The chiropractic profession focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. Chiropractors generally use a hands-on approach to improve joint function, ease pain, and support the body and person as a whole. While focused on the spine, treatments can include joints, muscles, and other soft tissues.
-
This can vary depending on the type of adjustment Dr. A performs. Manual adjustments are done with her hands, using a high velocity, low amplitude (fast and shallow) push in order to improve joint mobility. Sometimes you feel the quick stretch of the tissues, and sometimes there is also an audible sound accompanying a manual adjustment. There are other ways to adjust outside of manual manipulation, which are with the use of an adjusting tool like an Activator, stretching and mobilizing without the audible sound, and with the use of a specific table.
-
Graston is a form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) that uses a specific stainless steel instrument to perform soft tissue work. It is excellent for identifying and treating soft tissue and fascial adhesions, scar tissue. It can break down fibrotic tissue and increase blood flow and healing to soft tissues. Graston can increase mobility and function, as well as reduce pain and tissue adhesion. Dr. Armington has been trained and certified by Graston Technique, and utilizes it when appropriate for patient care.
-
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle approach to bodywork that can release tension in the central nervous system, by treating the soft tissues and fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. By delicate and focused freeing of the central nervous system, CST can help to naturally reduce pain, stress, health and well-being. It is a very light-touch treatment option that can be helpful for any aged patient, but because it is so gentle, it is great for treatment of newborns, infants, and children.
-
There are other ways to perform chiropractic adjustments and increase range of motion outside of the traditional, manual adjusting that often can produce that audible ‘crack’ sound. Dr. Armington can discuss this with you during your visit to give you options you are comfortable with outside of this traditional style of treatment.
-
The Activator is a handheld adjusting instrument used for lower force manipulation. It can be useful in many patient types or conditions, depending on the severity, patient presentation, or patient preference.

Yes! As a mom of two athletes she understands that every missed practice or game/meet is hard for these young adults. Let’s get them back to their sport, or evaluated for further referral if necessary.
In addition, with the increase in amount of time spent on screens, it is great to have your teen evaluated for postural complaints or changes!

Pregnancy & Prenatal Care
-
Dr. Armington is trained in specific techniques for prenatal care which can help alleviate symptoms such as sciatica, back pain, rib pain, abdominal heaviness, hip pain, and pubic symphysis pain. In addition, with proper pelvic alignment during pregnancy, it can often assist in a smoother birth.
Dr. Amanda Armington's love for treating pregnancy came from her experience while she was pregnant herself. As a mama of two children with very different birth stories, she recognized how important chiropractic care can be during, and especially after, pregnancy. Being treated during her pregnancies, along with remaining active throughout, helped her immensely with postpartum recovery. She loves to incorporate her personal experience with an evidence-informed approach to safe and effective prenatal chiropractic care.
Dr. Armington has been certified by the ICPA in the Webster technique. The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and treatment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This optimizes uterine function and position, and allows for the potential for an easier birth. She also utilizes soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release, cupping and Graston technique, as well as kinesiotape specific for pregnancy in her treatment plans. In addition, specific rehab exercises that are safe in pregnancy tend to be a focus in Dr. Armington's treatment. Exercise during pregnancy can drastically improve postpartum outcomes as well as improve general wellbeing. Dr. Armington approaches each case with careful consideration for the patient's current status. She takes time to explain procedures and answer any questions the patient may have.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and treatment protocol that can balance maternal pelvic structures. This can alleviate pain and symptoms in pregnancy, but it can also allow for a more symmetrical pelvis. When there is room for this alignment, baby may be able to turn into that optimal, head down position prior to birth. There are many reasons a baby would be in a different position than head down prior to birth, and pelvic alignment in mom may be one of them. Treatment to the mom (not the baby in utero) may be helpful.
Often prenatal care providers such as obstetricians and midwives may suggest a trial of chiropractic care, specifically the Webster technique, prior to 37 weeks to see if this non-invasive and safe treatment protocol can help to provide more space in the mom’s pelvis.

Dr. Armington combines craniosacral therapy (CST) and other manual therapy techniques in the treatment of babies for many reasons, but primarily to assist in muscular tension that can present in the mouth, jaw, head, or neck. It has been helpful after a challenging birth, for help with lactation or feeding issues, postural challenges and torticollis (neck spasm). Typically during treatment, your child will be relaxed, and sometimes babies even sleep through the entire evaluation! Gentle bodywork is used to release tension in soft tissues and structures in the child, rather than traditional chiropractic adjusting.
Dr. A works closely with your other care providers such as lactation consultants, pediatricians, and/or body workers, feeling that a team approach can help your child be at their best.
If you have further questions about CST, or treatment of your child, please reach out to the office! We would love to see if CST would be appropriate for your little one(s).

Yes! Dr. Armington has been trained specifically in bodywork for infants and young children. This type of gentle work can be extremely helpful for babies experiencing trouble with feeding, when there is tension in the mouth, jaw, face or neck. Treatment plans are typically short in nature, as typically if the work will be helpful, it is effective quite quickly.
Oftentimes, when working with a lactation consultant or pediatrician, they will recommend bodywork or chiropractic care for your child. Dr. Armington works closely with your child’s providers to be sure everyone is well versed in your child’s care.

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, light-touch approach to bodywork that releases tension in the central nervous system by working with the soft tissues and fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. Through delicate, focused work, CST can naturally reduce pain, stress, and tension, supporting overall health and well-being without the need for traditional chiropractic adjusting.
CST is a helpful treatment option for patients of all ages, but because it is so gentle and non-invasive, it is particularly well-suited for newborns, infants, and children. It has been especially effective for babies experiencing tension in the mouth, jaw, head, or neck — often following a challenging birth — as well as for feeding difficulties, torticollis, and postural concerns.
Most babies are completely relaxed during a CST session. Some sleep right through it.
If you have questions about whether CranioSacral Therapy would be appropriate for your child, please reach out to Armington Chiropractic — we would love to help you find out.
